Daguerreotype Textures

I finally made time to complete a few sets of my daguerreotype textures & I am finally offering them for sale. I'm in the process of creating additional textures to offer along with these. You will find a few finished examples through out this site.

Now, you may be wondering why I'm calling these textures "Daguerreotypes", I wanted to create textures that I could combine & incorporate into my workflow. In addition I wanted textures that would have lasting appeal. Initially I wasn't sure what name these textures but after I created a set which reflected some of the characteristics of an old worn vintage daguerreotype...I knew then that this would be the perfect description for them.

Each of the Daguerreotype textures is as unique an original; no two images were ever the same. daguerreotype was an early type of photograph named after the inventor of this particular photographic process, his name was Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre. I've always admired this process for its beauty & unique worn look, you can still find this process still being used by a few contemporary photographers but I find that it's modern counterpart lacks some of the nostalgia I've grown to appreciate.

I wanted to show a few examples of how these textures can be used...for starters you need to have a basic idea of how to work with layers. In the examples that you'll find on this 1st page, I used one to three separate textures. I placed the 1st texture over the photo and then used the layers blending mode to look for the best method to work with, I then used a 2nd or 3rd texture & followed the same method till I found a combination that I liked, the final result is a unique Daguerreotype look. You can use these textures all alone or combine them with other textures for different looks. Experimenting with different textures & other techniques will go a long way to help you achieve excellent results. There is no right or wrong just experiment till you know what works best with your particular images.
